Whispers of Wilderness is a colouring book celebrating the Coffs Coast’s landscapes, wildlife, and stories, created by the NSW National Parks Coffs Coast Branch.

Featuring illustrations by Gumbaynggirr artist Michael Donovan and local artist Lisa Foote, and inspired by the WOW film, the book encourages people of all ages to slow down, get creative, and connect with nature through engaging, locally inspired artwork.

What?

Whispers of Wilderness is a colouring book created by the Coffs Coast Branch of NSW National Parks. It celebrates the region’s special places, wildlife, and stories, from well-loved spots to hidden gems. The book brings together illustrations by Gumbaynggirr man Michael Donovan and local artist Lisa Foote with inspiration from the WOW film

Why?

The colouring book has been created to encourage curiosity, creativity, and care for nature across the Coffs Coast. We hope to help people slow down, notice local wildlife and places, and feel connected. The book invites all ages to learn, relax, and enjoy the natural world together in simple playful welcoming ways.

Where?

The illustrations in the Whispers of Wilderness Colouring Book are inspired by Coffs Coast’s forests, rivers, and shores captured in the WOW film. Koalas peek from eucalypt trees, powerful owls watch from tall branches, dolphins dance along the waves, sea turtles glide through bays, and frogs call beside sparkling creeks - all shaped by local stories and love for nature.

Who?

Whispers of Wilderness is designed for anyone who loves to explore and get creative - kids, families, educators, and nature enthusiasts alike. Filled with hand-drawn illustrations inspired by the Coffs Coast, it’s a fun way to connect with local wildlife and landscapes. Copies are available online and through the Coffs Coast branch of NSW National Parks.

Meet the illustrators

Michael Donovan

Michael is a multi-disciplinary artist from the Southern Gumbaynggirr Nation in NSW. His artworks reflect the natural environment & the traditional markings of his ancestors. Michael's artworks are held in collections worldwide.

ARTIST

Lisa’s primary passion is illustration, pattern design and exploring the colourful motives found in natural habitats. Her mediums include traditional visual art materials in combination with digital graphic design formats. She is also experienced in the Art print/ Book publishing processes.
